An evening at a teen camp offered an opportunity to explain the good news of Jesus and then address personal questions.

Ministry report · 2016

The gospel should become understandable—and questions should receive time. Young people especially need room to understand for themselves whom they trust.

An evening and conversations afterward

Before this report was published in July 2016, I had been invited to preach at an evangelistic evening at a teen camp. Some teenagers were touched by the message and stayed behind afterward.

Their concerns differed: some wanted a fresh start with Jesus, others wanted to turn to him or learn more about the gospel. I was able to rejoice in this openness and the opportunity for conversation.

What matters to us in such conversations

A visible response is an occasion for gratitude, but no standard by which we could infallibly judge a person’s heart. We therefore want to explain understandably, listen, and take questions seriously. Faith is directed toward Jesus Christ and his promise; it is more than participation in a particular procedure.

Jesus promises eternal life to the believer (John 5:24). Salvation is God’s gracious gift, not the reward for religious performance (Ephesians 2:8–10). This message should lead young people to reasoned trust.

A thought to take away

Personal support helps people pursue initial questions, become familiar with the Bible, and grow with Christ in everyday life. This requires patience, dependable relationships, and freedom to ask honestly.

The first section preserves the brief historical report. The subsequent reflection explains the concern of evangelistic conversations.
